Prue Thimbleby, Arts in Health Co-ordinator, and Elizabeth Baker, Lead nurse for Renal Services, approached Ethnographic Poet, Cheryl Beer, to devise poetry with patients during Renal Dialysis treatment. Armed with a notebook and pen, Cheryl visited 56 patients over an 8 month period during their treatment, working one to one at bedsides, supporting individuals to write poems about living with dialysis. The Poetics of Renal Dialysis gives the reader an authentic insight into how the patient feels during treatment. Very quickly, a key theme emerged within the poems whereby patients expressed immense gratitude to family members, carers and the Medical Team. The Anthology gives a platform for patients to express their overwhelming sense of loving gratitude. The book is dedicated to the memory of Elizabeth Baker (Liz) who died February 2017
